The Resident Anointing












But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you
(1 John 2:27).














In the Old Testament, we read of great men and women who were anointed by God at different times and for different purposes. When that anointing came upon them, they became superhuman and they did supernatural things; they uttered statements and performed acts that were beyond the ability of mortal men.

The Bible tells us what happened on one occasion when the anointing came upon Elijah the prophet: “The Lord gave special strength to Elijah so that he was able to run ahead of Ahab’s chariot to the entrance of the city!” (1 Kings 18:46 TLB). That “special strength” came from the anointing, and God gave Elijah the ability to outrun the best horses in the land!



When the anointing came on Samson, the Bible says, “…he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith” (Judges 15:14-15). On another occasion, a young lion came against him as he journeyed and the Bible says, “…the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand” (Judges 14:4). Though Samson was physically unarmed, he was fully armed with the anointing. The anointing made all the difference!
